Honoring (Loving) Writers so Writers can Honor (Love) Themselves

What this means is that instead of an outcome driven style of supporting my clients where we put the project first (story, novel, play, journal, script), I have a writer-first Mentoring Practice.

In other words, there is an abundance of craft-based support out there. But most of it doesn’t teach you that the most important part of your writing is YOU.

Believe me, I’m excited to learn what my clients want to write, and what they’re working on. But a sustainable writing practice is the strongest foundation for any writing project.

And a writer’s connection to her own work is crucial  to building that writing practice, and also writing authentically so that she can connect with readers through her writing—whether it’s a memoir or a screenplay, a novel or a poem.

That’s why I put YOU—the writer—first.

People closest to me don’t support my writing endeavors . . . they don’t value creative pursuits . . . they don’t care about my work
My writing doesn’t seem to have any value unless and until I’ve published it and sold it
As a POC, I’ve struggled culturally to find my voice and write authentically
There’s this book I want to write ... where do I begin?
I want to be a writer, but I’m easily distracted and can’t seem to find the time . . .
I’m finally ready to write, but I got a late start . . . and it may be too late

Sound familiar? . . . I’ve been There . . .

  • I’ve had friends and family who look down on creative pursuits unless they are commercially successful, don’t value my work, and aren’t interested in reading my writing

  • I’ve struggled to write authentically from my experience as a woman of color

  • I’ve had to bend my writing practice around other jobs and demands on my time

  • I’ve known I was a writer since the third grade, and spent a lifetime learning to honor that

As Your Literary Mentor, I can help you

  • Heal your creative wounds and the imposter syndrome that plagues you

  • Find your voice as an individual and a writer

  • Write authentically

  • Write what your soul is calling you to write
